I was super excited to read yesterday that Dreamworks has bought the movie rights to John Connolly’s middle grade fantasy series, The Gates, The Infernals, and The Creeps. The first book begins when some bored suburbanites accidentally open the gates of Hell, allowing demons to spill out into the British countryside. It’s up to Samuel Johnson and his trusty daschund Boswell to save the day.
Any book involving a trusty daschund is likely to be a pretty good bet. What makes these even more wonderful is Connolly’s sense of humour and turn of phrase, which remind me a whole lot of Terry Pratchett and JK Rowling. If you like kid’s lit, or know a kid who does, I highly recommend this series.
In other news, I filled up my ipod with a lineup of brand new audiobooks. Which is, admittedly, not so exciting for you. But it will make sitting around in rush hour a whole lot more fun for me. 🙂
How’s your weekend going?
