Amy’s Marathon of Books began January 1, and as promised, I’m going along for the ride. I’ll be reading 13 Canadian teen books, one from each province and territory in the country. Here’s my schedule so far:
Nova Scotia – Namesake, by Sue MacLeod – January 30
British Columbia – Half Brother, by Kenneth Oppel – February 27
Newfoundland and Labrador – Nix Minus One, by Jill MacLean – March 27
Prince Edward Island – Thunder Over Kandahar, by Sharon McKay – April 24
This is more of a hop than a marathon, as the geography is dictated by a) what books have been sitting unread on my shelves for years, due to my massive backlog and b) when stuff comes in at the library. And, as Amy’s doing, I’m assigning books to provinces according to the setting OR the home of the author, as whim dictates.
First review is coming next week. Feel free to read along – I’d love to hear your thoughts on these books in the comments. If you don’t want to participate, but still want to support Canadian children’s literature, click the icon to make a donation that will help launch a brand new book award!
