What a Week!

Sometimes there are weeks where you work 8 hours a day every day and feel like you didn’t accomplish a single thing. This was not one of those weeks.

This was one of those weeks when the stars align and projects that have been going on for years – in one case, over a decade – are suddenly… done. Which is amazing, but also a little weird?

Monday: I completed copy edits for a new environmental science book, coming out Spring 2020 with Kids Can Press. It is both the hardest and the best thing I’ve ever written and I am both over-the-moon-excited and completely exhausted by the intensive work of the last two years. Stay tuned for more news!

Tuesday: I completed requested revisions to an academic article about a science writing tutoring program that resulted in statistically-significant increases to students’ grades, not to mention huge boosts to their confidence as writers. This project started at Saint Mary’s University in 2013, and, once it’s published, could go on to inspire great things at other universities, too. Link to the study coming soon.

Wednesday: Sasquatch and I took a “couch day.” We watched 11 episodes of Grimm on Amazon Prime, while she alternated between sitting on my lap and sitting next to me while I cross-stitched. Together, we finished a Christmas tree skirt I’ve been working on for more than a decade, in three different provinces. Next month, my bestest crafty buddy will be visiting, and I will take shameless advantage of her machine-sewing skills to do the final finish work.

Thursday: I started research for a new science book proposal. Partly because I didn’t know what to do with all that suddenly-free mental real estate. But also because you ride the wave of motivation as long as it lasts!

What about you? What triumphs, large or small, have you experienced this week? Let’s celebrate our collective awesomeness together!
