What is Up With Daredevil Season 2?

May 20, 2017

poster for Netflix's DaredevilBefore life happened, I wrote about Netflix’s Daredevil and some of the reasons his character makes me slightly uncomfortable. I’ve been watching Season 2 though, mostly because I just found out about The Defenders, and I harbour a deep and abiding love for Jessica Jones, so I want to be caught up.

Now Daredevil is making me uncomfortable for totally different reasons, though. Am I the only one that feels like they didn’t actually know where the story was going when the started filming this season? I’m halfway through and I feel like the screenwriters are making it up as they go along.

It’s a lot like I felt during the last season of Game of Thrones. Which I can overlook to some extent, since GOT the show is now so far ahead of its source material, but Marvel does not have that excuse. And it’s really hard to commit to a show without trust that it’s really, truly, going somewhere.

Thoughts?

  1. Yes, I was disappointed in Season 2 of Daredevil, too. I loved Season 1, but 2 seemed to flounder before it ended up in a place I didn’t like. And of course, my opinion matters to Marvel. 😉

After watching the trailer for Jessica Jones, I had no interest in watching it. However, like you, discovering the Defenders is on the horizon, I went back and watched. In her series, I thought they handled mind control very well, as opposed to the second Avengers movie. Overall, it was a little too gory for me, but I liked her relationship with Luke Cage. I’m in the middle of his season now and loving it.

    1. Jessica Jones is definitely the darkest of the shows, but I loved her character and the psychology of the show.

And Marvel SHOULD care what you think! You’re one of their biggest fans. 😉
