Junior Scientist At Work

June 25, 2015

black bearMy honorary nephew (son of one of the SOTC) created this presentation on bears for his kindergarten class. It’s completely adorable, despite the one minor factual inaccuracy, which we’ll overlook because kindergarten.

Bonus points if you can find the factual inaccuracy without having to google it.

Did you have to do an animal report when you were a kid? (I remember writing one on raccoons.) How does it compare to this one, in both content and form?

  1. Way cool presentation. Kudos to Sebastian!
Of course, koalas are marsupials, not bears, but who’s to quibble with a kindergartener?
(And does it count that polar bears only LOOK white and their hairs are actually transparent?)

I especially love the earnest yet enthusiastic young voice narrating the video. And that final photo is a hoot.

    1. We’ll let the polar bears are white thing slide, but I do have to draw the line at koalas! And I love the tone of his narration, too. It reminds me that this is my audience – kids who care about facts but also want to be playful and excited.

  2. This is my very favourite thing that my child has done in school. It’s amazing what 4-5 year olds can accomplish (he started work on this presentation when he was still 4). The kids did the research, created the slides and recorded their own voice-overs. Project-based learning at its best!

I love how “the end” matches with picture of “the end” of the polar bear. I don’t think it was on purpose, but it fits well!

I watch this whenever I need a pick me up. It’s my caffeine substitute!

    1. He’s Barry’s kid – of course the polar bear’s end was on purpose! 😛
