A Whirlwind of Awesome

Coming in August!

Coming in August!

Kind of a lot has happened lately and from the looks of things, the rest of the summer will be busy too. Quick announcements today before I dive back into my newest science project.

1) In Halifax this weekend? Come see me! I’ll be at the Halifax Forum Farmer’s Market this Saturday from 8AM to 1PM, signing books and chatting science. I’ve written on so many topics, you’ll find a title to keep any junior book lover fired up about learning over the summer holidays.

2) Science Contours, an alumni magazine from the University of Alberta, has a lovely profile of me in the Spring 2015 issue. Click through if you’re interested.

3) I won the Martha Weston Grant! It gives an established author who wants to write in a new genre the chance to attend the SCBWI Summer Conference in LA. I’m going to spend the whole time a) soaking up knowledge like a fiction-writing sponge and b) trying not to swoon while in the presence of so many icons in the field of children’s literature. Probably both at once. It’s an amazing opportunity and I’m so grateful to have been selected.

What are you up to these days? Share your good news in the comments so we can celebrate together.

  1. Wow, congrats on the Martha Weston grant! That’s a big deal; hope you’ll post from the conference. Can’t wait to see your new novel.

    1. Thanks! I still can’t believe they picked me. They asked me to snap some photos and do a post for the SCBWI blog, so I’ll definitely be reporting here as well.

  2. Wish I could come to your book signing. Someone will have to invent “beaming,” although I might feel the same way about it as Dr. McCoy — you know, scrambling all those molecules.

A huge congratulations on the Martha Weston Grant!
