It’s Entirely Possible We’re Doing This Wrong…

May 17, 2014

This weekend, Tech Support and I are celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary (shortly to be followed by our 19th anniversary of being together – we wanted to be REALLY sure before tying the knot). I’m writing, he’s building a shed, and we bought a gift, but it’s for our cats…

Do we know how to celebrate, or what?

In other news, a mother dog found an abandoned baby and saved it by bringing it home to her puppies. Which is both the saddest and most wonderful story I’ve heard in a long time.

So what are you up to this weekend? I promise not to pout if you’re having more fun than I am. And if you haven’t already, check out the Children’s Book Week Giveaway Hop, because the raffles close on Monday.

  1. Happy anniversaries, Lindsey.
Last week, my tech guy and I celebrated our 475th month anniversary of marriage (he’s the one counting), after knowing each other just over a year earlier. Different generation, I think. Enjoy your days together anyway that you like. We do. Today, we’re on my way west to Regina, then on to Edmonton on Monday. It’s beautiful and sunny outside as we wait for our connecting flight here at Winnepeg’s Richardson Airport. Have a great day.

  2. Lindsey, we made the mistake of getting married on the weekend of the national librarian conference, so we’ve spent the last 26 anniversaries either going to or giving papers. We do try to fit in a nice dinner, though.

Building a shed sounds more productive. 🙂

    1. Elizabeth, our anniversary often falls on Canada’s Victoria Day long weekend – we thought this would be a great way of ensuring we had some time off to spend together. Yeah… We forgot that the problem’s not the day, it’s our workaholic tendencies!

  3. I’m in Michigan, cheering on The Kidlet’s dance school. 🙂 And as far as anniversaries go, do it the way you want to do it. I find that a simple take-out-and-a-movie works best for us. Anything more complicated just builds up the expectation, and then the whole day feels like an anti-climax.

    1. I agree Ishta, too much build-up is too much pressure. We probably could stand to be a little more deliberate about the planning, though. It’s so easy to get sucked up in deadlines and to-do lists and forget that spending time with loved ones is what life is all about.
