Children’s Book Week Giveaway Hop!

May 11, 2014

It’s TD Children’s Book Week in Canada, which means Canadian authors, illustrators, and storytellers are touring the country, sharing their work in schools and libraries and anywhere else kids hang out. I still remember the day Sheree Fitch visited my elementary school in Yellowknife. She performed a then-unfinished poem that went on to be published as There Were Monkeys In My Kitchen.

It was AWESOME.

In celebration of Canadian kid lit, I’m hosting a stop on the Children’s Book Week Giveaway Hop. For my portion of the giveaway, one lucky winner will receive an autographed copy of Fuzzy Forensics: DNA Fingerprinting Gets Wild, when it’s released this fall. To tide you over until then, you get a copy of the Fox Talk ebook in the format of your choice (the enhanced edition, which includes video, works best in PDF on desktops or newer model ereaders). Commenting is one way to enter – I want to hear about your favourite encounter with an author in the wild!

PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO RECENT POSTAGE INCREASES, I CAN ONLY SHIP TO CANADIAN ADDRESSES. IF YOU DON’T HAVE ONE, YOU’LL RECEIVE AN EBOOK COPY OF FUZZY FORENSICS.

  1. Sadly, I haven’t met any authors in person. (All of them are online encounters, and my favourites are Jessica Haight and Stephanie Robinson ~ authors of the upcoming MG novel, The Secret Files of Fairday Morrow.)

    1. If you have a chance to meet authors in person, please do – one of the greatest things I’ve ever experienced as a writer is meeting people face to face who were actually excited about my books.

  2. Haven’t had any

  3. I can’t think of any in person ones either. I think I’d be very star-struck! I have really enjoyed meeting some of my favorite authors online as well as many new ones! I’d like to invite you to be a part of my all-things-books linky party every Thursday on Mommynificent.com. We’d love to have you join our little community!

    1. I actually don’t post about books that often, Tina, but when I do, I’ll try to link up – looks like fun!

  4. My family loves meeting authors at book signings. My favorite way to meet authors is at the Mazza Museum Summer Conference in Findlay, Ohio. A week of listening to authors and illustrators talk about their work. So much fun!

    1. Thanks so much, Donna! I’m really proud of Fox Talk and I can’t wait for Fuzzy Forensics to hit the shelves. 🙂

  7. Sorry…I tend to comment before clicking on the Rafflecopter dropdown! I actually know quite a few authors (and a good many are friends), but the one I’ll mention (since I admire her and WISH she were a friend) is Kate DiCamillo. I was one of the organizers of our conference and she was a keynote speaker. I got to talk with her for a few minutes in a relatively quiet corner as I had her sign my pile of books. She’s wonderfully down-to-earth and humble, and I think she’s the perfect pick for the new KidLit Ambassador!

    1. Oh, I love Kate DiCamillo – even though she’s one of those authors that makes me think I will never be any good!

  8. I live in a town of 1000. We do not have many people that come to our quiet sleepy town. Thank you

    1. I think it’s great when authors are able to visit small towns as well as bigger centres – some of my writer friends say they’ve been overwhelmed by the welcome they get in smaller areas!

  9. Hi Lindsey! So glad to see your new book will be coming out soon. I have not met many authors, of note, in person. How about in my dreams? Does that count? If it does, I’d pick J.R.R. Tolkien! : )

    1. I once had a drink in the pub where JRR and CS Lewis used to hang out to talk about writing – I figure that counts, too. 🙂
