When I was an undergrad at Michigan State U, one of the professors in the psych department was studying domestication. He took a van of grad students out to a landfill and live-trapped feral rats to bring back to the lab and compare to the lab rats. Foxes are a MUCH more appealing study!
Foxes are definitely better than rats!
